Web Design Examples - Imes Group

An example of a business site with a little added pizzazz in the navigation system is Imes-Group - one I coded and project managed during my time with Bigmouthmedia. It uses frames because the client felt that a left hand side navigation system was required but that it couldn't scroll off the top of the screen and neither could the corporate branding at the top.

The overall look is quite simple but there are a large number of pages. It was therefore decided that a sliding menu that uncovers submenu items as required would save space and avoid obscuring the central information. There is a little additional trickery required to change the upper frame headers and logos to reflect the various other subsidiary companies as the menu is operated.

The centre content section is mostly quite plain and as easy to read as possible as suits a corporate site but it could easily have become boring. What lifts it visually is the subtle use of colour photographic images in an otherwise fairly monochrome setting. Here I must credit the design company involved who put together the images for the different page headers. This was done by Itchmedia on behalf of Graven Images who were designers for Imes' whole corporate image, following extensive discussion.

It is worth mentioning that frames are not the disaster for Search Engine Optimisation that some people suggest - it is very easy to make mistakes but if you know what you're doing then frames can be just as effective at getting a high position in search results as non-framed sites.
